Obama Website Design Inspires Young Artists Support and Votes

April 2nd, 2008

Visual artists mobilizing for Barack Obama are producing images of the candidate and dispersing them through Web sites and blogs, attaining mass reach into a key voting demographic: their peers. Comfortable with social media and networks like MySpace, blogging, and Twitter, this group prefers content they create or discover on their own over what the media packages for them. These particular artists’ involvement grabs this group’s attention, reinforces Obama’s strong connection to voters in their 20’s and 30’s, and further propels his already successful online movement forward.

Richard Montoya: Watch Latina Women Raise their Voice for Obama

February 28th, 2008

After talking with so many Latina women, I felt compelled to make this video with Rodriguo Garcia to show how Latina women really feel about Obama. I found they were not only leading the Obama charge but that they were also gateway voters with unmatched enthusiasm. Maybe their boyfriends were dragging their feet, or their parents and grandparents were doing as expected, but these young women were independent thinkers and fierce Obamaciones! Let the tape roll. Viva La Mujer! Viva Obama!

Generation Obama Kicks Off Chapter for Young Professionals in L.A.

August 29th, 2007

‘Hope’ was the message shared by young Los Angeles professionals Saturday as they launched the flagship chapter of Generation Obama - LOS ANGELES (GO-LA) in Hollywood.

In coordination with GO events in 20 cities nationwide, about 250 people gathered at Falcon on Sunset Blvd. to kickoff GO-LA, which will serve as the campaign’s official youth movement in Los Angeles.

After an encouraging video message from the Senator to his supporters, newly-appointed California political director Mitchell Schwartz energized the crowd with a speech about the campaign’s building momentum. He pointed to success in early voting states Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, and underscored why Obama’s experience makes him the leader who is best equipped to beat a Republican candidate in the general election.

Speeches were also made by LA City Council President and Obama For America co-chair of the CA Leadership Committee Eric Garcetti, who encouraged voters to "believe in possibility," and actor Hill Harper, who read a tear-jerking excerpt from a letter the Senator had written in response to a young boy’s question: "Why is life so hard sometimes?" (We definitely needed a box of Kleenex after that one.)

The atmosphere was festive and fun, with DJs Aurelito & Shakespeare of i&i Sound System spinning as party-goers posed for photos with "HOPE," "Fired up!" and "Ready to go!" signs. Many also recorded video messages of support for the Senator, including supermodel Tyson Beckford and the YouTube sensation, ObamaGirl Amber Ettinger.

The biggest hit of the night, however, were the "Obama LA" t-shirts made on site by Hacienda Prints. In fact, members of the GOLA team spotted some fashion-forward hipsters proudly sporting their one-of-a-kind Obama swag on the town the very next day, prompting us to proclaim that The Movement Has Begun!

008 welcomes Obama in LA at Post-Gay Rights Forum Party

August 10th, 2007

Hollywood’s Obama supporters rallied behind their candidate at a packed house Thursday at Area nightclub. About 250 donors cheered as the presidential contender discussed equality for the LGBT community, which immediately followed the Democratic party’s first-ever gay rights forum in campaign history.

Shouts of "Fired up!" and "Ready to go!" shook the room, while celebs like "Scrubs" co-stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison, Seth Green, Nick Cannon and producer Lawrence Bender applauded from the VIP section.

"We are not going to settle for what the world is," Obama told his energized audience, "we’re going to strive for what it might be."

Obama arrived in a motorcade while a slew of press hovered on La Cienega Blvd., where fellow presidential hopeful John Edwards was hosting his own event at Republic across the street. The senator left shortly after his speech, having put in a long day that included seven public appearances, according to members of his staff. Despite their early flights on Friday, many members of Team Obama stayed at Area to celebrate and mingle with supporters.
